The Night Everything Burned — And We Answered
It was 9 p.m. on March 12th when the call came in. Our answering service patched it straight through to our on‑call staff. On the other end was a woman whose grief was so raw she couldn't form words — only sobs. We didn't rush her. We just stayed on the line: "It's okay. We're here. Take as long as you need."
Ten minutes passed. It felt like thirty.
When she finally found her voice, she told us what had happened. Her family's house had caught fire that night. They had lost everything — their belongings, their keepsakes, their home. And their four beloved pets, two cats and two dogs, had not survived. They had no money to give them a proper goodbye. She didn't know what to do, or who to call.
"How will I pay you?"
"We've got you. We'll be there in twenty minutes."
On arrival, the family needed hugs and support. They got them in spades. We wrapped their pets in blankets, placed them gently on stretchers, and took them to the crematory that night. Two days later we called to say her family members were ready to come home. She asked what she owed. Our answer: it was a privilege to care for them.
Cherish Pet Angel Network provided upgraded engraved urns and covered the entire $1,700 — because two of our Angel members had already given.
When communities rally around pets and families
More pets receive needed care.
More families keep beloved pets in loving homes.
More treatment options become possible.
Veterinary teams gain another resource and another path forward.
Fewer families face economic euthanasia or surrender.
A local fund, built by the community it serves
Every participating veterinary hospital has the opportunity to build a local 'Hero Fund' through community crowdfunding with the Cherish Pet Angel Network.
These funds help provide support for pets and families facing difficult circumstances while strengthening the bond between veterinary hospitals and the communities they serve. When you invest in a Hero Fund, you are helping pets receive care, helping families stay together, and helping communities come together around a shared cause.
Choose a participating veterinary hospital and become part of the solution.

The weight they carry
The veterinary profession experiences some of the highest rates of compassion fatigue, burnout, moral distress, and professional attrition of any helping profession. Every day, veterinary teams are asked to carry the emotional weight of heartbreaking situations where a beloved pet needs care, a family desperately wants to help, but financial limitations leave few options.
These are not simply medical decisions.
They are emotional decisions.
Human decisions.
Community decisions.
Repeated exposure to economic euthanasia, pet surrender, delayed treatment, and financial hardship can take a significant toll on the well-being of veterinary professionals who entered the profession to heal animals and support the families who love them.
How the Hero Fund is funded
Funded through community crowdfunding, local business support, charitable contributions, and individual investments, the Hero Fund allows people who care about pets to rally around families during difficult times.
Outcomes
- More pets receive care.
- More families stay together.
- More options become available.
- Veterinary professionals gain another resource when financial hardship stands between a pet and needed treatment.
